Currently, I am on break for the week WAHOO! Think jumping up and down and excitement for finally being able to take of misc things around the house.

Of course, as much as I try to forget about work I just cannot. This week my most exciting task that I have done was organizing all my resources into 5 beautiful binders.

This the way I recommend you organize yourself if you are a school based therapist

Binder #1- Worksheets on misc topics- I organized those based on subject; ex. anger, impulse control, self esteem, grief, and friendship.

Binder #2- Groups- this may overlap with Binder #1, but this way when you go to run a group for the second year in a row you will have all your resources in one spot and you may have extra copies and or sample work.
I used dividers and labeled them with group topics I had done in the past. Then I took sheet protectors and put the resources into them in the order they were used in the group.
For example, in the angry group I first used an anger thermometer and then the next session, was a how my body feels when it is angry worksheet.
I did this for all the groups I have run and had worksheets for.

Binder #3- Classroom lessons - This is pretty self explanatory. Again use dividers label them with broad topics you have done lessons on such as listening skills, coping skills etc. Then put copies or power-points, and use sheet protectors to hold extra handouts.
Now if a teacher asks me for a lesson, it will be super easy.

Binder #4- Book Worksheets  - recently I starting reading therapeutic books with my clients and many of them came with worksheets. I made extra copies and used dividers to organize the worksheets by books

Binder #5 - Training and other research materials- I again organized these materials by topic. Now next time I have a training my resources won't just get stuffed in my work bag (yes that has happened).

Hope this is helpful!
Welcome!

First, I guess I should introduce myself. I am currently a school based therapist who works in an inner city elementary school in Baltimore City. Between seeing clients and dealing with crises, I rarely have time to sit down and plan complex sessions. But when time allows I love to get creative and do art and sand therapy with my clients.
I decided I should start blogging so I can help myself, by having a record of what I do each year, so I do not have to keep brainstorm each session and so that I can help my colleagues by sharing my ideas.
I look forward to your feedback and having others share their ideas with me.
